Scripture: John 12:4-6, 13:21-30,
Focus Verse: John 13:27
After Judas received the piece of bread, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, ‘Do quickly what you are going to do.’
Commentary: A consistent theme in John’s gospel is that Jesus knew who would betray him to those who sought to do him harm. He chose him anyway. Jesus was “troubled in spirit” over the coming betrayal but continued to fully include Judas in his circle of companions. Although there are many theories about Judas’ motive, all we really know is that Judas was a disciple and a thief … and Jesus loved him.
Reflection: Have you ever felt “troubled in spirit” about someone? Have you ever believed that someone was not being truthful about who they are? What did you do?
