Scripture: Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29
Focus Verse: Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Commentary: Psalm 118 is a festival psalm. It is read during Passover, as the Jewish people recall God’s deliverance of the community from slavery in Egypt into freedom. The joyful thanksgiving of this psalm was the liturgy of the faithful as they processed to the temple. “O give thanks to the Lord!” the people cry. Perhaps these words were on their lips that day, the day in which Jesus entered Jerusalem.
Reflection: What do you give thanks to God for? How do you give thanks, with words or actions or both?
