False Confidence

Scripture: Luke 22:31-34
Focus Verse: Luke 22:34
Jesus said, ‘I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you have denied three times that you know me.’

Commentary:  Peter was very confident that he would be able to withstand the pressure and would be able to follow Jesus into the fiery trial ahead, but it is not always easy to stand up for what we believe.  When confronted with who he was, he couldn’t claim he was a Jesus follower because it might have meant he would suffer just as Jesus was suffering, and he wasn’t prepared for suffering just yet.

Reflection:  How confident are you that you will stand up for what you believe when it is really important? Are you willing to suffer for what you believe and who you believe in?

ACTS Prayer
Adoration:  O God, Sacred Heart of Suffering, I feel you!
Confession: Forgive me when I falter in the face of suffering and help me when I am too afraid to speak.
Thanksgiving: Thank you for holding me up with your love.
Supplication: I pray for those who have a fiery trial ahead.

ACTS of Faith:  Find a way to stand up for something or someone you believe in.
