Denial

Scripture: Mark 14:66-72
Focus Verse: Mark 14:72b
Peter remembered that Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

Commentary:  Without conspiring against Jesus the way Judas did, Peter simply denies Jesus 3 times in 3 different ways:  1) he pretends ignorance of what’s happening, 2) he denies being a part of the community of Jesus followers, and 3) he claims he does not know Jesus.  He wasn’t prepared for physical suffering but suddenly knowing he has denied Jesus, just hours after saying he wouldn’t, causes him emotional pain.  He breaks, he weeps but he also waits …

Reflection:  In what ways have you denied who you are?  How has that caused you pain, emotionally or spiritually?

ACTS Prayer
Adoration:  Spirit of God, Solace for Inner Pain, we beseech you come to our aid and let us rest in your Presence
Confession: I have failed you in all my denials.
Thanksgiving: Thank you for embracing me when I return.
Supplication: I pray for all who have self-inflicted inner pain

ACTS of Faith:  Write a note of encouragement to yourself and mail it one day when you are out and about …
