Scripture Read Isaiah 9:1-7
Focus Verse Isaiah 9:6
For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Commentary: Christian theologians perceive in this Isaiah passage a reference to Jesus as king. In keeping with Isaiah’s pervasive concern for a just society, the peace of the throne and the kingdom is said to depend upon the justice and righteousness of the king. Justice and righteousness capture two dimensions of the king’s role, which are his responsibility to human beings and his responsibility to God.
Reflection: How do you offer justice to the world and live with God in truth and righteousness?
Prayer Breathing in … Prince of Peace
Prayer Breathing out … Call me to Faith
