Death

Scripture: Matthew 27:45-61
Focus Verse: Matthew 27:59-60
Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock.

Commentary: This day is known as the darkest day of the year, a day of death, a day for grieving to hollow out a space within us. It is customary for crucified criminals to either be eaten by vultures or thrown in a trench to rot into the earth.  However, in view of Jesus’ reputation as a holy teacher and Joseph of Arimathea’s reputation as a rich man and a disciple of Jesus, the body was not treated with contempt but was given personal care by one of his own.

Reflection:  What do you believe about death?  How has death touched you and how has the absence of someone you love changed you?  Any insights about how Jesus’ disciples, friends, family, follows are feeling right now?

ACTS Prayer
Adoration:  O God, Compassionate One, our tears flow
Confession: I’m not sure about anything anymore …
Thanksgiving: Thank you for being with me in my grief
Supplication: I pray for anyone who has had a recent loss

ACTS of Faith:  Take fresh flowers and place on a grave.
