The Cup

Scripture: Luke 22:14-20
Focus Verse: Luke 22:20b
This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

Commentary:  Life is in the blood, according to Hebrew writings, and blood was an integral part of the Jewish sacrificial system of atonement, which means reconciliation with God, or “at-one-ment.”  Wine is an important element at Passover as it symbolizes the blood of the lamb that was sacrificed to mark the doors that God then “passed over” as the Israelites fled Egypt.  Jesus is known as the “lamb” of God whose blood was poured out for atonement of sin.

Reflection: How have you experienced reconciliation with God in your life?  How do you know Jesus as lamb of God?

ACTS Prayer
Adoration: Jesus, Lamb of God, I bow my head to you!
Confession: I bend my will to you for I have been willful.
Thanksgiving:  Thank you for sacrificing your life for humanity so I can open my heart to the love you pour out.
Supplication:  I pray for all people to hear that Jesus died because of the great love God has for all of humanity.

ACTS of Faith:  Find an image of a lamb and place it in a place where you will see it.  Let it remind you of sacrifice.
