Scripture Matthew 1:18-25
Focus Verse Matthew 1:21
Mary will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
Gabriel has told Mary to name her baby boy Jesus, and now the Angel has told Joseph to name him Jesus. Certainly the baby boy’s name will be Jesus. The name Jesus is a derivative form of the Hebrew name Yeshua, which we translate as Joshua. Jesus means “Yahweh delivers, or Yahweh saves.”
God is at work to renew and restore lives today, even in unexpected ways. We may be called outside our comfort zones and led down uncertain paths for the sake of God's mission. Jesus, friend of sinners, is Immanuel, "God with us" to heal and to save. If we answer the call to live the Nativity by reaching out with the saving grace of God in Christ, there is no better company than Jesus, the Word made flesh?
Reflection: How has Jesus been your Savior? How has God healed your brokenness and restored your life? How are you finding power in the Name of Jesus? How do you share your story and the name of Jesus with others?
This has been a week of very interesting, very different music for the season of Advent. Today's selection is no different! If music is a spiritual pathway for you, listen to Third Day sing, "Manger Throne" and with them, let us sing, "Jesus, Jesus, precious one, how we thank You that You've come!"
Prayer: Breathing “The Jesus Prayer”
Breathing in … Lord Jesus Christ
Breathing out … Have mercy
*pray by breathing this prayer repetitively until the prayer prays you. You’ll know the prayer is praying you when the words come to you at random times in random places. You will simply feel the words on your lips, in sync with your breathing. And you have begun the process of praying unceasingly through the power of the Holy Spirit!
