Psalm 4: Answer Me When I Call

This week’s spiritual practice of the Psalms is Lectio Divina, which means divine reading.  Lectio teaches us to allow a word or a phrase to be a personal focal point.  Know that Spirit is guiding you to the words you need to hear for your life.  Before you begin your Lectio practice,

PrayGod of Stillness, open my heart to your Word.  Lead me as I read and open the eyes of my heart so that I might see and seek the understanding you desire. Amen.

ScriptureRead & Reflect on Psalm 4, a psalm of trust and supplication (asking God) knowing God will hear you when you call.

Focus:  What word or phrase shimmers off the page and into your heart?

__________________________

Don’t struggle with this, just let the Spirit open your heart and become receptive to God’s word. It’s all good even if God is searching your heart and may not seem to be speaking.

Read & Receive:  Read the psalm again and receive what God is speaking into your heart. Know that it’s ok if it is another word or phrase or if this process seems random. Consider what you are hearing in your spirit.  Does it sound like God?  If not, what might seem more like God?

Read & Respond:  Read the psalm one more time and let yourself be guided deeper by God’s Spirit.  Is there anything you would like to say to God about what you are hearing, or not hearing?

If music is a prayerful practice for you, go to PsalmImmersionDotCom and explore Richard Bruxvoort Colligan's arrangements (and commentaries) of Psalm 4.

Rest & Breath Prayer:  Let go of your prayers and rest in silence.  When it feels like time to move on, go with a breath prayer for your Day. Breathe with this one or create one for yourself.

Breathing in … My Lord God
Breathing out … Answer me
