Psalm 14: Is there anyone who is wise, who seeks after God?

This week we engage in Lectio Divina, divine reading.  As we pray with scripture we learn how to allow a word or a phrase to be a personal focal point with the Spirit’s guidance.  Before you begin your Lectio practice:

PrayGod of Stillness, open my heart to your Word.  Lead me as I read and open the eyes of my heart so that I might see and seek the understanding you desire. Amen.

ScriptureRead & Reflect on Psalm 14 which begins with a dismal image of humanity, one that denounces Godlessness.  Once again, God is there, in the midst of life’s struggle.

Focus:  What word or phrase calls for you to notice what is happening in the life of humanity?

Is it getting easier to allow a word or phrase to come to you? If not, perhaps an image will come to you instead.

Read & Receive:  This time as you read the psalm again, concentrate on opening your heart to God’s word for YOU … what word or phrase or image fills your heart as you read?

Read & Respond:  As you read the psalm again, how does God’s word inspire you to respond in prayer?  What do you want to say to God … what do you want God to know about the times you fall short?

If music is a prayerful practice for you, go to PsalmImmersionDotCom and listen to the lament Richard Bruxvoort Colligan's wrote for Psalm 14 & Psalm 53 called Not Even One.

Rest & Breath Prayer:  Let go of your prayers. Rest in silence.  When if feels like it is time to breathe into your day again, pray with this prayer or create one.

Breathing in … God, my deliverer.
Breathing out … Restore me.
