Psalm 32: You are my Hiding Place

The psalms are a beautiful source of poetry for song, and many people have used the words to comfort them in their wilderness wanderings, creating beautiful music to bless the world.

Scripture:      Psalm 32

Focus:   You are a hiding place for me. ~Psalm 32:7

Song Lyrics:  written by Michael Ledner in 1981

You are my hiding place
You always fill my heart
With songs of deliverance
Whenever I am afraid
I will trust in You
I will trust in You
Let the weak say
I am strong
In the strength of the Lord

Commentary:  Psalm 32 is a psalm of thanksgiving, but it has also been identified as a psalm of confession which celebrates the joy of forgiveness.

When Michael Ledner wrote this song, his “wilderness” was separation from his wife.  One day he picked up his guitar and his bible and searched for something to sing about.  He found Psalm 32, was drawn into the phrase, “You are my hiding place” (think lectio divina) and the song unfolded.

Reflection: How has God been your hiding place when you’ve been afraid or in a place of wilderness?  How is God your strength?

Breath Prayer for the Day:
Breathing in … God of Deliverance
Breathing out … You are my Hiding Place
