Chorus: Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
When I feel afraid, think I've lost my way
Still You're there right beside me
Nothing will I fear as long as you are near
Please be near me to the end [Chorus]
I will not forget your love for me
And yet my heart forever is wandering
Jesus be my guide, hold me to Your side
And I will love You to the end [Chorus]
Nothing will I fear as long as you are near
Please be near me to the end [Chorus]
And a light unto my path
You're the light unto my path
Commentary: Psalm 119 is among several psalms that are arranged acrostically, according to the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Psalm 119 is the longest of these — and the longest of all 150 Psalms with 176 verses! It celebrates the glories of the Torah, Jewish Law.
Michael W Smith started with the music for this song but wasn’t inspired to write the lyrics. One night, Amy Grant got lost at a retreat center, wandering around in a “wilderness” of fear. Suddenly, she saw a lamp and started walking towards that light, not realizing she was moving toward her own cabin. Amy walked into that little cabin and sat down with a notebook and pen and wrote the verses to Thy Word. What an inspiring way to read and work with the Psalms!
Reflection: Have you ever been afraid you’ve lost your way? How did you make it through your fear? How has God been the Light on your path and the Guide in your life?
Breath Prayer:
Breathing in … Jesus, my Guide
Breathing out … Light my path
